Cascadia – Bear Sign
I have hiked Little Jack Mountain in the North Cascades a couple of times. The first time I hiked it — I ran across very fresh bear sign…..a tree right on the trail which had been clawed down to the base by a bear eating the inner bark. The stripped area was about 6 1/2 foot high. I kept a watchful eye but never saw the beast. A few years later my son and I climbed all the way to the top and spend a couple of days up there and saw plenty of bear scat but again no bears ” in person “. The envelope was folded up out of the topographic map for the area—the Little Jack Trail starts right about where the stamp is.
