Katabatica – Albatross

katabatica albatross stamp bruce bowden stamps

The albatross is a magnificent bird that spends much of its time flying at sea. They nest, though, on land and so this is the closeup of a female albatross sitting on her nest. It must be comforting for her to finally sit still after all those months battling winds at sea. Stamps too go on long journeys over thousands of miles of water — and then come to rest in my mailbox  : )  The envelope is made from folded up art paper in order to getting the interesting texture which mimics the rough windblown grass she is nesting on…….
