Kiva – Singing Cactus
As you hike in the Southwest you come across many prickly pear cactus. This one in BoX Canyon on the way to Phantom Ranch had a central area missing — probably as a result of some hiker stabbing it with his / her hiking pole. The prickly pears were in bloom with their red buds and the effect immediately reminded me of a choir boy singing his heart out. This paired ( no pun intended ) with a current legal stamp honoring Padre Vareia who indeed ……… looks the part of a serious choirmaster………. : )
