M:11 – Smooth Rock

For my 60th birthday — I went to Georgian Bay in Ontario, Canada.  Ever since I had heard Gordon Lightfoot’s song  ” Christian Island ” — I had wanted to see it.  It is the Canadian Shield country — flat land scoured by glaciers for eons and now flooded with freshwater.  The are thousands of  islands which vary in size but many are only 20 feet or so long. They have a wonderful polished smoothness with different crack patterns. The colors vary from gray to pink to black to brown.  One gets color drunk on the endless vistas and translucent waters.

The bottom photo is of a small table I am using in a shack on the edge of Georgian Bay to paint on —— listing to that particular Lightfoot album on my ipod.  Heaven on earth.  : )
