I first saw this in a book in 1977 and have remembered ever since. It has inspired 3 paintings recently which I will post here soon and ask you which one pairs best as I am going to frame the saying and one painting…….

I believe in ancient times—- even the best of hunters could come up empty and they and their families literally starve to death.  It just depended on the weather and the movement of animals. Skill but also luck.  So to live, to see another day  WAS the greatest thing.
