Skookum – Buffleheads
COUNTRY:
Skookum
DESIGN:
I worked ( as a volunteer ) at the New Dungness Light Station a couple of years ago. It is a US Coast Guard Lighthouse that sits on the end of the Dungness Spit which is a large sandbar that is about 6 miles long and reaches out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Many container ships for Asia pass by each day and occasionally a nucleur submarine. In the morning and evenings I would walk along the beach adjacent the surf and watch the seals and the waterfowl. My favorite were the bufflehead ducks which look sort of comical in black and while plumage and rid high in the saltwater. On particularly stormy morning I saw this pair and when I got back to the Keeper’s house, I painted this stamp.
